The Housing Advocacy panel will explore the intersections of land use, financing, resilience, and design and delve into how the region can build housing that addresses the region’s housing affordability crisis while reducing segregation and improving the environment.
The NYC region has become increasingly unaffordable, with roughly half of its residents now paying burdensome housing costs. Efforts to address this have had some successes but have also faced significant setbacks, most notably in the latest New York budget discussions. And even if we implement policies currently being discussed new challenges, needing new answers, await. This panel will discuss what new ideas need to be developed in order to truly tackle the affordability crisis, overcome the hurdles to achieving a more equitable and sustainable region, and rectify the past decisions that led to segregated and divided communities.
RPA thanks Guidehouse, Jacobs, McKinsey & Company, and AECOM for sponsoring complimentary virtual passes to the RPA Assembly panels!
