Statement below attributed to Zoe Baldwin, Vice President, State Programs & New Jersey Director:
Kevin Corbett has played a pivotal role in revitalizing NJ TRANSIT and strengthening the region’s robust partnerships in times of unprecedented challenges. His tenure is marked by significant progress in restoring capital construction projects, such as the $16.04 billion financing of The Gateway Project, which will modernize the century-old infrastructure, spur billions in economic benefits for the region and country, and restore pride in our tri-state transit systems.
His legacy also includes fulfilling the agency’s long-term capital plan and addressing critical staffing needs, including the re-staffing train engineers. We commend Kevin for his dedication and meaningful contributions to the region’s transportation system, which have benefited not just New Jerseyans, but residents and businesses of the entire metropolitan region.
We also warmly congratulate Kris Kolluri as he steps into this role. Kris has done a terrific job launching the Gateway Development Commission and can step in at NJ TRANSIT and hit the ground running. We look forward to collaborating on priorities including pivoting from automatic fare increases and advancing key capital projects such as completing the Portal Bridge and advancing the Gloucester-Camden Light Rail Line. Addressing persistent delays and pursuing reforms to local parking requirements near transit stations to promote more efficient use of space will also be essential.
Together, we can ensure New Jersey’s transit system meets the needs of its riders and communities for years to come.
