We welcome the court’s decision ordering the release of federal funding for the Gateway Hudson Tunnel project. This ruling reaffirms that infrastructure funding approved by Congress must be honored, and projects of national significance cannot be stalled for political reasons.

Gateway is essential to the economic health of the Northeast and the entire country. The existing century-old North River tunnels are operating beyond their intended lifespan, and any prolonged disruption would have catastrophic consequences for commuters, businesses, and the national economy. The court’s ruling is a critical first step towards permanently reinstating the funds allocated by Congress, which will protect thousands of jobs, and restore certainty to a project that hundreds of thousands of riders depend on every day.

Regional Plan Association urges all parties to move swiftly to implement the court’s order and ensure that the Hudson Tunnel Project has the consistent reliable funding it needs for construction. The time to build Gateway is now.
