Jersey City has shown persistent housing growth in the past few decades — a stark contrast to its neighbors as the region faces a housing shortage.

RPA’s research shows that, between 2010 and 2022, Jersey City added almost 26,000 units of housing, more than triple the per capita production of the New York Metropolitan Area. Despite persistent housing growth over the last decade, Jersey City still has high housing costs and could face a shortage of up to 36,500 units of housing by 2032 due to flood loss, population growth, and other factors.

To address these challenges, RPA and the Jersey City Times hosted a webinar on June 9, 2025, starting with a presentation from Marcel Negret, RPA’s Director of Land Use, on findings and updates from the 2024 report, Housing Jersey City: Assessing Current and Future Gaps.

The webinar then featured a panel discussion, moderated by Jersey City Times editor-in-chief Aaron Morrill, with experts from across different sectors:
