The work described herein is part of a larger study to determine the land use densities suitable for a variety of public transit modes and service levels. The express bus is only one of eight modes considered. The measure of the demand for public transit in an urban setting and the cost of supplying the service to meet that demand developed as part of this effort will not be fully described here. Nevertheless, it is necessary to outline the relevant variables involved before the focus of this paper matching demand and supply for express bus service - is discussed.’
