Statement attributable to Rob Freudenberg, Vice President of Energy and Environment programs at Regional Plan Association (RPA).
As residents of our region brace for a summer that promises higher electricity rates, hotter days, and increased chances of flooding from worsening storms, we applaud the leaders of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut for joining with a coalition of 15 other states and Washington, D.C. – led by New York Attorney General Letitia James - to push back against the federal government’s efforts to turn back the clock on offshore wind development.
With support and approvals from the past two federal administrations, our region has committed years of planning and significant investment of tax-payer dollars into securing a future with offshore wind power to meet our increasing demand for electricity, while laying the groundwork for a new global industry built around offshore wind with the promise of economic security for tens of thousands of workers, and energy security for all of us.
We encourage the states to take every measure they can to deliver on this promise.
