Today’s announcement advances the transformation of America’s busiest transit center into a world class train station. We support this important effort and call on all the partners to work together to deliver a Penn Station that better serves our growing city and region. While every effort must be made to increase capacity from the existing station, a transformed Penn Station must also be designed to support a future expansion to handle the additional capacity that the new Hudson Tunnel Project will deliver. While an expansion will not be needed until the new Hudson River tunnels are complete and the existing ones have been renovated, planning should proceed now to determine how much additional capacity will be needed and how best to integrate it into the new station and existing community.
