RPA Celebrates New York City Council Passing City of Yes for Housing Opportunity

share

The following is attributed to Tom Wright, President and CEO of RPA:

Regional Plan Association commends the New York City Council for passing the City of Yes for Housing Opportunity zoning reforms package today.

With today’s vote on the proposed City of Yes amendments, the New York City Department of City Planning has delivered an innovative land-use resolution that will help address our critical shortage of safe and affordable housing, support the economic vitality of the region, and ensure all communities are able to play a part in making this City a place where more people can put down roots.

The City of Yes reforms will not only allow the city to add tens of thousands of new housing units. RPA’s latest research found that City of Yes will also generate tens of thousands of jobs and over a billion dollars in earnings each year.

Passing the City of Yes is the first step of many towards tackling our urgent housing crisis. Today’s decision will go on to strengthen the New York region’s economy and empower New York communities for years to come.
