Regional Plan Association is pleased to support the affirmative vote of the Brooklyn Marine Terminal (BMT) vision plan. Today’s decision is an important step in advancing the City’s goals in building much needed housing, investing in climate resilient infrastructure, and enhancing freight mobility in our region. With this step, BMT will be home to a flexible and modern port, acres of publicly accessible waterfront, increased open space and pedestrian prioritized streets. BMT also presents an opportunity for the expansion of the Blue Highway–which will move more goods by water and reduce our city’s dependency on truck freight. As the City moves forward in the GPP process, we look forward to continued collaboration and meaningful stakeholder engagement on crucial next steps of the development.
