Regional Plan Association Convenes Search Committee to Identify New Board Chair

share

Current Chairman Scott Rechler will complete six-year term at the end of 2022

NEW YORK, NY – Amid celebrations for its centennial year, Regional Plan Association (RPA) today announced it has initiated a search for a new Board Chair in anticipation of the completion of Chairman Scott Rechler’s six-year term of service. Rechler, who also serves as CEO and Chairman of RXR, assumed his position as Chairman in 2016. He was also recently elected to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s Board of Directors.

The process will be led by a Search Committee dedicated to identifying outstanding candidates who will advocate for the implementation of the recommendations in RPA’s Fourth Regional Plan and embrace RPA’s values, which include promoting diversity, equity and inclusion in all aspects of the organization’s work. The search process is anticipated to conclude before the end of the year.

RPA’s Board Chair leads the organization’s diverse and prestigious Board of Directors, partnering closely with the President, providing strategic planning, leading fundraising efforts, recruiting new board members with a continued emphasis on diversity, and engaging with political, business and civic leaders to advance RPA’s priorities.

Members of the Search Committee are:

  • Jun Choi, CEO, Menlo Realty Ventures

  • Sarah Fitts, Partner, ArentFox Schiff

  • Matt Kissner, former Chairman of the Board, John Wiley & Sons

  • Katy Knight, Executive Director, Siegel Family Endowment

  • Angela Pinsky, Senior Government Affairs Manager for NY, NJ and CT, Google

  • James Rubin, Chairman of Advisory Board, Aligned Climate Capital

  • Janette Sadik-Khan, Principal, Transportation, Bloomberg Associates

  • Tokumbo Shobowale, Executive Vice President for Business and Operations, The New School

RPA will be working with the Davis Consulting Group, a New York based consulting firm focused on human capital and organizational effectiveness, on the search .

“Serving as the Chair of the Regional Plan Association, an organization with such stature and dedicated focus to improving our communities, has been a tremendous honor,” said Scott Rechler, Chair of Regional Plan Association’s Board of Directors and CEO and Chairman of RXR. “With its long history of putting forward comprehensive and pragmatic solutions that have positioned our region as the thriving metropolis that it is today, there is simply no better organization than RPA to help guide the region as we emerge from the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic. RPA’s work is more important than ever as we now face one of the largest structural shifts since WWII in how people live, work, and operate. I look forward to working with the next RPA Chair and the RPA team in moving our region forward.”

“RPA’s Board Chair has always been a distinguished leader who upholds the values, priorities, independence and credibility of the organization,” said RPA Board Vice Chairs Sarah Fitts, Matthew Kissner and Tokumbo Shobowale. “As we engage in this thoughtful search process, we’ll be thinking carefully about these qualities for our next chair. RPA’s Centennial will conclude with a celebration of Scott Rechler’s successful term and the selection of a dynamic new chair who will lead us into the next decade.”

“This is a monumental year for RPA as we celebrate our centennial and select a new Chair to lead our Board of Directors,” said Tom Wright, President & CEO of Regional Plan Association. “It’s been a great pleasure to collaborate with Scott over the past six years. I can’t thank him enough for his leadership, especially as we completed RPA’s Fourth Regional Plan. He has transformed this organization. Thanks to Scott’s tremendous work, the next Board Chair will be able to hit the ground running as we continue building a better future for the entire region.”
