Over the last two years, New York City has issued construction permits for over 80,000 housing units; nearly 20% are dedicated as affordable. And outside New York City, a growing number of cities and towns are building more multi-family units, primarily in downtowns and near transit.
Business, government and civic leaders at the 2016 RPA Assembly were polled on a number of questions gauging their views on the future our the New York metropolitan region. One question honed in on whether they thought the region would become more affordable over the next 10 years, and if so, for whom.
Q: Ten years from now, do you think the region be more affordable for: everyone, low income households primarily, middle-income households primarily, or it will not be more affordable for anyone?
