The Tri-State Region of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut is home to nearly 20 million people of vastly diverse backgrounds. This report, the first of several profiling the Region’s ethnic communities, was prepared for the Latino Commission of Tri-State and United Way of Tri-State by the Regional Plan Association with funding from a challenge grant from the Ford Foundation.
The purpose of this study was to develop a reference base of information from the 1980 Census to aid the Latino Commission of Tri-State and the United Way, as well as government and other human service organizations, in assessing the social service delivery needs of the Latino community in the Tri-State Region. The information base, which contains previously unavailable Census data and post- Census trends, depicts the present and likely future size of the Latino community, its settlement patterns and demographic and socio-economic characteristics by national origin. The complete data set resides with Regional Plan Association.
