The following statement can be attributed to Moses Gates, Vice President for Housing & Neighborhood Planning, Regional Plan Association:
The New York City Housing and Vacancy Survey reflects the alarming reality that finding a safe, affordable place to live in the city is more difficult than ever. The staggering lack of available housing threatens to make living in New York City next to impossible for thousands of housing-insecure families across the city and threatens the economic well-being of countless others. To tackle this problem, swift action must be taken to increase supply, or we risk falling even further behind demand in the coming years. We applaud the Adams Administration for beginning the effort to build more homes via the reforms included in the City of Yes for Housing Opportunity platform and implore the New York State Legislature to give the city the freedom necessary to enact the sorely needed changes to how the city functions.
