(NEW YORK, NY) – Regional Plan Association (RPA), the New York region’s premier planning organization, and the 92nd Street Y, a global center for arts, innovation and ideas, announce today the launch of a video series featuring discussions with thought-leaders on how to rebuild New York after the devastation of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hosted by Scott Rechler, Chair of Regional Plan Association, Chairman and CEO of RXR Realty, former Vice-Chairman of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and former MTA Board member, the new series, Recalibrate Reality: The Future of NY, will feature conversations with leading figures in government, business, the arts, academia, science and public health and other key sectors, with the goal of answering the question: How do We Recalibrate Reality to Create a Better and Brighter Future for New York?

To watch the show, subscribe through the 92nd Street Y at https://www.92y.org/recalibrate-reality.

After initial airing, each episode will be available at the 92nd Street Y and the RPA’s Vimeo Page and at www.RecalibrateReality.com

Before COVID-19, New York City, the world’s leading talent magnet, attracted a diverse array of talented, ambitious and hard-working people from around the world, as well as some of the world’s most successful companies, powering the most powerful economic engine in the United States. This success, however, also increasingly created a gap between the City’s haves and have nots that was becoming unsustainable. This phenomenon was only exacerbated by COVID-19. COVID-19 also ground the City’s economic engine to a virtual stand-still, with tens of thousands New Yorkers still out of work, and poverty and homelessness both on the rise.

“After COVID-19, we’re not returning to the world that once-was, so we can’t rely on the playbooks of the past,” said Scott Rechler, Chair of Regional Plan Association and CEO and Chair of RXR. “The Recalibrate Reality series will allow for substantive conversations with leaders from a diverse array of backgrounds in which we will be able to explore thoughtful solutions to the challenges we face today and beyond.”

“As we come upon the one-year anniversary of the COVID-19 shutdown, the future of New York City is literally at stake,” said Seth Pinsky, CEO of the 92nd Street Y. “We’ll need big ideas and effective leadership in order to return to the path of growth and ensure that this growth is spread more equitably going forward. Recalibrate Reality will bring leaders from all sectors to the table for in-depth and candid conversations of the type that we desperately need to be having right now.”

“The city and our surrounding region are enduring one of the biggest crises we have faced in nearly a century,” said Tom Wright, President and CEO, Regional Plan Association. “Just as we were the epicenter of the pandemic, we can lead when it comes to the enormous task of healing and renewal ahead. This starts with sharing ideas to chart an equitable and sustainable path forward.”

About the 92nd Street Y: 92nd Street Y is a center for the arts and innovation, a convener of ideas, and an incubator for creativity. Founded in 1874, it seeks to create, provide and disseminate programs of distinction that foster the physical and mental growth of people throughout their lives. 92Y offers thousands of programs from its New York headquarters and creates community far beyond its four walls, bringing people from all over the world together through innovations like the award-winning #GivingTuesday and the Social Good Summit. It’s transforming the way people share ideas and translate them into action all over the world. All of 92Y’s programming is built on a foundation of Jewish values, including the capacity of civil dialogue to change minds; the potential of education and the arts to change lives; and a commitment to welcoming and serving people of all ages, races, religions and ethnicities.
