Statement on Leadership Change at Metropolitan Transportation Authority

share

NEW YORK, NY - The following statement can be attributed to Tom Wright, President and CEO, Regional Plan Association.

RPA supports Janno Lieber’s appointment as Acting CEO and Chair of the MTA. It is crucial the MTA have strong, stable leadership as we emerge from COVID. Janno has demonstrated his leadership and ability by leading the MTA’s Construction and Development department over the past four years, in addition to his prior experience in both the public and private sectors. There are many challenges facing our transit system, including the implementation of congestion pricing, the execution of a $51 billion capital plan, and showing all New Yorkers that the subways and buses are safe to ride again. Janno Lieber is uniquely qualified to lead the MTA during this time.

RPA also wants to express our thanks and appreciation to Pat Foye and Sarah Feinberg – two extraordinary public servants who have risen above and beyond during these challenging times. They kept the trains and buses running during the darkest days of COVID. All New Yorkers owe them a debt of gratitude, and should hope that their public careers will continue into the future.
