NEW YORK, NY - The following statement can be attributed to Tom Wright, President and CEO, Regional Plan Association.
Regional Plan Association sends thanks and gratitude to Pat Foye and expresses its confidence in and support of Sarah Feinberg and Janno Lieber as they take leadership of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA).
As New York recovers from the COVID pandemic, a modern, well-functioning transit system – which has served our front-line workers throughout the crisis – will be essential to a healthy, prosperous, sustainable and equitable recovery. Pat Foye has courageously led the MTA through one of the gravest challenges in its history and provided strong leadership that all New Yorkers should applaud. He leaves behind a system that is moving in the right direction, with a $51 billion capital plan, new funding sources from congestion pricing, and federal support to move through this painful period.
As Pat moves to Empire State Development to continue his remarkable career in public service, we have great confidence in Sarah Feinberg and Janno Lieber, who have been running critical parts of the agency, to continue supporting the recovery and building a transit system for the 21st century. RPA stands ready to assist them in bringing riders back to an improved and expanded transit system that will support the next century of growth.
