With a new, dedicated two-track right-of-way, Amtrak service from New York City to Washington, D.C. could reach speeds of over 200 mph, reducing travel time in half to 90 minutes. From New York to Boston, two additional tracks between New Rochelle and Bridgeport, and rerouted service through Hartford, would allow trains to reach 125 to 160 mph, cutting trip times by almost one hour. These investments would dramatically increase intercity and commuter-rail capacity in the Northeast Corridor (NEC), and reduce traffic congestion.
