Nassau Center can be something new, combining the best of the urban and suburban world - if the right degree of concentration and greenness and the right relation of each activity to the others are attained. This new kind of center has not yet been achieved in suburban America because activities generally have followed - piecemeal and unplanned - after residences burst across suburbia. By the time the total potential for a center was apparent, there was too little space, poorly-located, and too little unfulfilled demand to warrant one. But Nassau County already has an embryonic center and has enough vacant space among the elements already there to cement the whole together, if future uses are carefully designed and related.
