RPA mourns the passing of Alexander Garvin – a deeply influential figure who shaped the City we live in today.
Alex held several important public posts, including a seat on the City Planning Commission and as Vice President of Design and Development for the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation after 9/11. But his greatest influence was on the multiple generations of planners he educated and everyone who had the pleasure of working alongside him or hearing him lecture about what makes cities vital. Alex shared with us his deep love of cities and appreciation of the complex ways they grow and evolve. His imprint is everywhere around us, and we live in a better city thanks to him.
