The following is attributable to Rob Freudenberg, Vice President for Energy and Environment at RPA:
Yesterday’s decision by the State of New Jersey not to advance new offshore wind projects as part of its Fourth Solicitation is a significant setback for the State’s clean energy goals. The nascent but promising industry that has been poised to grow, and the state’s residents now face further delay in transitioning to new, clean energy sources that would improve their air quality and help to avoid the very worst impacts of climate change, which are worsening and will only accelerate. Federal action to pause offshore wind has only fueled uncertainty in an industry that needs greater certainty to move forward. As the State–including the current administration and those vying for the governorship—weighs its next steps for offshore wind, we call on them to advance offshore wind to bring around 15,000 new jobs, steady and lucrative tax revenue streams, community improvements, along with clean air, climate improvements, and ecological enhancements.
