Regional Plan Association is deeply saddened by the passing of Congressman Donald Payne Jr. Congressman Payne’s passion was evident in all that he did, and his advocacy on urban issues will be sorely missed.
Throughout his tenure in City Hall and in halls of Congress, he fought tirelessly to improve the quality of life not only for his constituents, but for all Americans. As a champion for Newark and as Chair of the House Subcommittee on Railroads, Congressman Payne understood the vital role that transportation plays in connecting our communities, driving economic growth, and improving the quality of life for all residents.
Our thoughts are with the Payne family, his friends, and colleagues during this difficult time. May his commitment to public service and his passion for improving transportation infrastructure serve as a guiding light for future generations of policymakers and advocates.
