Statement attributable to Tom Wright, President and CEO of Regional Plan Association.
The court ruling today affirms that congestion pricing will benefit businesses, residents and communities across the tri-state metropolitan region, and that the process for implementing the program has met the federal standards for approval. The decision calls for added specificity on mitigation plans in New Jersey, but the court has made clear that both the MTA and FHWA put careful consideration into the program’s design.
Years of detailed study and thorough analysis conclude that congestion pricing will reduce traffic congestion, improve public transit, improve air quality, and save lives. The sooner this program goes into effect, the sooner communities across the region will benefit.
