Build Gateway Now Coalition Statement on Record of Decision for Gateway Environmental Impact

share

NEW YORK, NY - The following statement can be attributed to Brian Fritsch, Campaign Manager, Build Gateway Now Coalition.

Today’s news that the Record of Decision for the Hudson Tunnel Project Environmental Impact will be completed by the end of May is a significant step forward for the Gateway Project. After more than three years of counting the 1106 days since the previous administration refused to advance the project, we can now focus on other crucial steps including a full funding agreement between the Federal Government, New York and New Jersey.

While the Hudson Tunnel project is the biggest piece of the Gateway Program, we’ve seen a tremendous amount of momentum in a short amount of time for the entire program. With the Portal Bridge funding in place and New York State’s recent $1.3 billion in the budget for Penn Station, there’s finally hope for the busiest stretch of rail in North America.

We need all of our elected officials to continue to advance all the elements of the Gateway Program to replace and improve this over 100-year-old infrastructure so we can secure the future of the region and put 17,000 people back to work on our recovery.
