Statement on the Opening of Grand Central Madison

share

A statement from RPA President & CEO Tom Wright:

“RPA is thrilled to see the opening of passenger service to Grand Central Madison, an idea revived and showcased by RPA as East Side Access in the Third Regional Plan, and one we’ve advocated in favor of for years. Grand Central Madison will provide enormous long-term benefits for the capacity, reliability and connectivity of our regional rail network and improve travel times for hundreds of thousands of riders. In conjunction with the recent completion of the LIRR’s third track project, Grand Central Madison will make the LIRR an even greater driver of economic growth and
prosperity--while also delivering significant environmental benefits for
the region. Our region still faces urgent transportation, housing and resiliency challenges, but investments like these in our public infrastructure can help us overcome them. Congratulations to Governor Hochul and Janno Lieber for bringing this project to completion, and we look forward to working with the MTA and New York State to ensure Grand Central Madison meets its full potential for future generations.
