Statement on New York's Off Shore Wind Solicitation

share

A statement from RPA Vice President of Energy & Environment Rob Freudenberg:

RPA is thrilled to see the remarkable response to New York State’s third offshore wind solicitation that will eventually result in at least 2,000 MW of clean, renewable, fossil-free energy for our region. As the range of bids, we encourage New York to choose a project or projects that serve to effectively:

  • Reduce the state’s total emissions of greenhouse gas emissions;
  • Directly benefit communities that have been historically marginalized and that unfairly bear the burden of environmental injustices;
  • Support a just transition that advances strong labor practices and workers’ rights and livelihoods; and
  • Generates state and even region-wide economic benefits

We look forward to working with New York State and industry partners to ensure these projects are as productive as possible and contribute to the goals laid out in the Climate Leadership & Community Protection Act.
