As Washington D.C. uses executive orders, memoranda, federal legislation, stop-work orders, and other tools to decimate the nascent offshore wind industry nationally, state governments supportive of offshore wind have been forced to consider whether or not state-level planning and investments should continue in the face of a federal freeze.
Perhaps nowhere has this decision been more fraught than in the case of transmission infrastructure. In order for offshore wind projects to deliver clean, reliable power into the energy grid, new connections will be required, and were being planned. But recent decisions in New York and New Jersey have either stalled or canceled plans for this essential transmission infrastructure, leaving states ill-prepared for future connections once offshore wind returns.
We’ll speak with an esteemed panel of policy, advocacy, and practitioner experts about the troubles plaguing offshore wind transmission and consider how advocacy and action can make our states offshore-wind ready, despite the current federal administration’s actions.
