NEW YORK, NY - The following statement can be attributed to Tom Wright, President and CEO, Regional Plan Association.
Transportation Secretary Buttigieg faces a once-in-a-generation opportunity to jump start deeply needed systemic, equitable changes in transportation. By prioritizing other transportation modes besides driving, and examining the impact of highways in cities and low-income communities, among other things, Buttigieg can combat disparate impacts and improve our air quality and environment across the country. In the NY-NJ-CT tri-state region, which accounts for 10 percent of the nation’s GDP, we look forward to what Secretary Buttigieg will do to move crucial infrastructure projects forward – including the Amtrak Northeast Corridor Investment Plan, the Gateway Program, and New York’s congestion pricing program.
