A Statement from Tom Wright, President & CEO Regional Plan Association
Regional Plan Association mourns the passing of Mort Downey, III, a leading public servant and voice for public transit. Alongside visionary leaders including Dick Ravitch and Bob Kiley, Mort helped bring the New York City subway back from obsolescence and served our region and nation to improve transit for millions.
At RPA, Mort was a trusted friend and advisor, especially participating in RPA’s America 2050 initiative to bring a new vision to the nation’s infrastructure needs. Mort was one of the leading transit experts of his generation, and he always kept us looking to a better future. He will be sorely missed, even as we give thanks for his accomplishments and service.
