A Statement from RPA New Jersey Director Zoe Baldwin:
As we recently testified to the New Jersey Senate Community and Urban Affairs Committee, homes with access to transit are less car-dependent, more sustainable, and help create healthy, vibrant communities. This initiative brings the Garden State into the vanguard of states recognizing there is not a one-size-fits-all answer to parking requirements. People who need fewer cars shouldn’t be burdened with the extra construction costs of mandated parking spots. Transit-Oriented Development overlays are becoming the norm for cities; it’s exciting to see this issue addressed by the State. RPA is thrilled to see S3605 pass the New Jersey Senate and set the stage for a statewide reduction in parking requirements at developments adjacent to transit. Congratulations to Deputy Majority Leader Sarlo and Majority Whip Singleton on shepherding this bill through your chamber, and we look forward to it being signed into law.
