The following statement can be attributed to the Congestion Pricing Now coalition:
Today’s MTA Board meeting laid bare the extraordinary and appalling consequences of Governor Hochul’s unilateral decision to ignore the law of New York State and pause congestion pricing: 100,000 middle class New York jobs in jeopardy, over 30% of the capital plan canceled – threatening essential systemwide enhancements, including desperately needed accessibility improvements – with “no good options” to fill the hole, up to $10B in grants from the Federal Transit Administration deferred, continuation of unacceptably high rates of asthma for our children — on yet another Air Quality Alert Day — and an increase in the most costly traffic congestion in the world, costing our region up to $9B annually. Short-term optics are no excuse for failing future generations.
We applaud the MTA Board for standing ready to implement Congestion Pricing at a moment’s notice and urge Governor Hochul to follow the law and resume the orderly implementation of congestion pricing.
