New York -- Today Regional Plan Association President and CEO Tom Wright issued the following statement in response to New York’s Governor Cuomo and Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton’s announcement about improvements coming to John F. Kennedy International Airport: “The announcement this morning was an important step in revitalizing one of the region’s most critical infrastructure systems. We cannot be a world-class region without world-class airports. Rebuilding and modernizing JFK’s terminals, gates, taxiways and roads will add capacity and make JFK a more attractive destination for travelers. As passenger volumes grow as a result of these investments, the airport can create a virtuous cycle by harnessing this growth to finance other critical investments, including transit access and additional runways. The plans released today are important steps in the right direction, and offer New Yorkers the promise of improved facilities for a growing city and region.”
