US President-elect Donald Trump’s administration will inherit important policies on transportation, housing and climate that will shape the NY/NJ/CT metropolitan region for decades to come.
Thanks to unprecedented federal and state support, our metropolitan region is making generational investments in its transit system: upgrading signals, fixing stations, replacing outdated subways cars and buses, and expanding to reach new communities. We need to maintain momentum for priorities such as the Gateway Program, including the Hudson Tunnel which is already under construction and generating 7,500 jobs and $1.5 billion in immediate economic activity.
Congestion pricing is an important element to funding necessary transit projects in NYC and to reducing traffic congestion in our region’s core and should be implemented immediately by Governor Hochul with the support of the Federal government.
We must also continue advancing offshore wind, the Port Authority Bus Terminal, and the US Army Corps of Engineers’ Harbor and Tributary Study to ensure our region is more resilient, sustainable and prosperous for future generations.
Investing in infrastructure has been a boon to the economy and enjoys bipartisan support. President-elect Trump has promised to strengthen America’s economy, which means he should not delay these capital investments, which would only drive-up costs and weaken our economy.
