Statement attributable to the Congestion Pricing Now coalition.
NEW YORK – Governor Hochul’s repeated claim that congestion pricing is “too much” ignores decades of countless studies, hearings, and data that proves that proves it does not impact “every day New Yorkers” and is highly effective in reducing traffic and air pollution, improving street safety, and providing the funds needed to modernize public transit.
With less than 100 days until President-elect Donald Trump takes office, bringing with him the promise to terminate the program entirely, Governor Hochul must seize the opportunity to activate congestion pricing and secure $16.5 billion in transit funding that we cannot count on from the new administration. She must do it without triggering a new review process. Every moment of delay only deepens the uncertainty and jeopardizes New York’s transit funding, clean air and safety.
It’s time for Governor Hochul to put New Yorkers first by unpausing congestion pricing now, before it’s too late.
