NEW YORK, NY - The following statement can be attributed to the Tom Wright, President and CEO of Regional Plan Association.
New York Penn Station – the beating heart of the Northeast’s transportation system – deserves the improvements that passengers have been demanding for decades. This includes both the modern amenities that commuters will expect in the future and the tracks, platforms, concourses and entrances required to serve a growing network.
There has never been a better time to invest in the infrastructure of our region and plan for a better future. In conjunction with the Gateway Program, Penn Station Access, the recently completed Moynihan Train Hall and other improvements, we have an opportunity to finally rebuild and reimagine the busiest stretch of rail in North America. We must get it right.
RPA applauds the release of design alternatives for Penn Station and looks forward to working with the MTA, Amtrak, NJ Transit, and our City, State, and Federal partners to ensure the needs of riders and the community are met and all options are thoroughly considered. Working together, it is possible to achieve the safe, accessible and unified station that New York and the region need and deserve.
