“Governor Moore is a leader for our time. His tenure at the Robin Hood Foundation was exemplary as he demonstrated innovative approaches to alleviating poverty. His stewardship of the State of Maryland through the Francis Scott Key Bridge disaster demonstrates his extraordinary skill at bringing the most talented people together, solving complex challenges and leading in times of crisis,” said RPA Chairman Raymond J. McGuire.
“As Governor Moore leads recovery and rebuilding efforts in Baltimore, RPA affirms our commitment to investing in people and places to build a fairer, more sustainable and prosperous economy for future generations. Governor Moore is demonstrating this leadership, and we are delighted that he will join us to accept RPA’s highest honor,” said Tom Wright, President and CEO of RPA.
“Governor Moore, like my good friend John Zuccotti, is a man who understands that infrastructure projects are the very lifeblood of the nation. Whether it’s bringing more than $7 billion to the State of Maryland for rail infrastructure, or leading the current recovery and rebuilding efforts of his state, Governor Moore’s legacy has and will continue to leave its mark on the built environment for generations to come,” said Howard Milstein, Chairman, President & CEO, New York Private Bank & Trust and lifelong friend of John Zuccotti.
Wes Moore is the 63rd Governor of Maryland. He is the first Black governor in the state’s 246-year history and just the third African American elected governor in the history of the United States.
Moore’s life and career have been defined by service. Before entering elected office, he was the CEO of the Robin Hood Foundation, built and ran a small business that helped underserved students navigate college, and led soldiers in combat in Afghanistan as a Captain in the U.S. Army.
In 2010, Moore wrote “The Other Wes Moore,” a story about the fragile nature of opportunity in America, which became a New York Times bestseller. He went on to write other best-selling books that reflect on issues of race, equity, and opportunity.
Moore is a graduate of Valley Forge Military Academy and College, Johns Hopkins University, and Wolfson College, Oxford, where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar. Moore and his wife Dawn have two children: Mia and James.
