This panel will bring to life the case study of South Fork Wind on Long Island, an offshore wind farm that will power 70,000 Long Island homes whose transmission project was recently implemented. Panelists, including community leaders, environmental advocates, energy developers, and government officials will discuss the lived experience of transmission development that many other communities are about to live through. The discussion will help to frame what offshore wind transmission is and what effective community engagement looks like as New York, New Jersey and states across the country prepare to scale a new industry that has the potential to deliver thousands of local jobs and economic growth.
