After 10 months of hard work, thousands of hours writing and designing, and countless Zoom calls, we are thrilled to unveil the new RPA.org.
If you’ve seen our old site, you know it had its limitations. We wanted a fresh and modern website that was easy to navigate, clearly told the story of RPA and the region, and put our research and advocacy work front and center. We wanted to be a better resource for you - our friends, supporters and NUMTOTs - as you search for the latest analysis, policy proposals and big ideas in the metropolitan tri-state region.
We’ve flipped everything on its head, so here are some things to highlight:
What’s New?
- The Timeline – This is a new feature that wasn’t on our old site. With more than 140 entries spanning 98 years of history, we finally tell the RPA story through old footage, cool old maps and fun tidbits.
- Campaigns – We stay busy testifying in front of government bodies, sending letters to Congress and presenting to community boards. See our full body of work for each of our advocacy campaigns on these pages.
- Our Region - We’ve created this page to show why we work in the places we do and how we’re all connected.
Things That Existed Before But Look Better Now:
- Reports - Rather than downloading a PDF right away, we’ve created individual report pages that outline the topline takeaways, use interactive maps and charts and also offer an option to download. Older reports now have a new presentation too, with a summary and visuals upfront as well.
- Events - See events RPA is hosting and events where RPA staffers are participating. This is also the new home of our Assembly and Benefit pages too.
- The Latest - This used to be our “newsroom” on our old site. Our news hits, statements, press releases, lab posts, testimonies and more live here.
So You Want to Know More About the Design of the Website:
- The illustrations - Inspired by the isometric drawings from The Second Regional plan, the new, original illustrations visualize our four research areas.
- The patterns - Inspired by the beautiful fills used to indicate characteristics of the region in the First Regional Plan, the patterns have been repurposed to act as frames and borders for the text and imagery on the site.
- The colors - Inspired and expanded upon from our logo, designed in 2013 by Rich Silverstein.
- The fonts - A combination of historical and contemporary, the typefaces reference our rich history and our focus on the future.
Thanks to our amazing project team - Jenny Volvovski of ALSO and Brett Burwell of Static Interactive - the RPA Communications team, and our insightful Board Members and colleagues, we invite you to get lost (because it’s interesting, not because of poor website navigation) in our website, dive into the RPA timeline, and get to know our campaigns.
We hope you enjoy the new and improved RPA.org!
