The Interborough Express (IBX) is a planned light rail line that will connect Brooklyn and Queens along an existing freight rail corridor. This project is currently in the planning phase, and has the potential to bring major changes to parts of both boroughs that are not currently well-served by public transportation. Regional Plan Association originally conceptualized utilizing this line for passenger rail service in our Third Regional Plan.
How can we best balance moving people and moving freight? What could the future hold for jobs and industry along the route? This walk invites participants to discuss these questions while walking alongside a one-mile stretch of the route along the Bensonhurst/Borough Park border, a place where currently light industrial and mid-rise residential uses co-exist.
