Regional Plan Association would like to congratulate the Gateway Development Commission and its partners on the launch of the first tunnel boring machine for the Hudson Tunnel Project.
This is a major milestone for a project that has been decades in the making and is essential to the future of our region’s transportation network. The start of tunnel boring marks tangible progress toward delivering a new, modern rail connection which will strengthen the reliability and resilience of the Northeast Corridor and eventually lead to an increase in capacity across the Hudson River.
Reaching this point is a testament to the sustained work of GDC, its partners, contractors, labor, and the many people who have worked to move Gateway from planning to construction. RPA is proud to celebrate this progress and looks forward to seeing the project continue advancing toward completion.
The Hudson Tunnel Project is an investment in New York and New Jersey, but in the entire Northeast Corridor and the millions of people and businesses that depend on it. Today’s milestone is an important step toward a stronger, more reliable regional rail system.
