Statement Responding to New York State Senate Bills on Housing Discrimination

share

NEW YORK, NY - The following statement can be attributed to Tom Wright, President and CEO of Regional Plan Association.

“Housing segregation did not happen by chance. It is the result of intentional policy decisions made over multiple generations. Nearly 90 years after the first redlining maps restricted the right of Americans to live in communities of their choice, we need new policies that are just as intentional to reduce housing segregation. RPA applauds the advancement by the New York State Senate of 11 bills to combat housing discrimination. We look forward to continuing to advocate for long overdue and much needed change to eliminate segregation and the legacy of racism from our communities.”
