Manager of Events & Strategic Engagement

The Manager of Events & Strategic Engagement works across RPA projects and departments to raise awareness and financial support for RPA priorities.

Regional Plan Association (RPA) is seeking a motivated and creative individual for the position of Manager of Events & Strategic Engagement.

On May 10, 2022 RPA entered its Centennial Year. This role will focus heavily on celebrating and promoting RPA’s 100-year anniversary and looking toward the next century of planning and big ideas for the region. An interest in the New York metropolitan region’s history and future will be critical to one’s success in this role. There will be a mix of revenue-generating and free events throughout the year that will support RPA’s $10 million Centennial Campaign.

The position reports directly to the Vice President of Development and plans all events, including but not limited to the Spring Assembly, Fall Benefit, Board meetings and briefings, report releases, membership events, and infrastructure tours. Along with event execution this person will support corporate and major donor fundraising as part of the Development Team and support the Communications Team on promotion. Along with supporting Board programming and engagement, this position will assist in managing RPA’s 105-person Board of Directors.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Lead in the planning and implementation of all events including but not limited to workshops, tours, panels, breakfasts and special dinners;

  • Lead RPA’s two annual marque events: the Fall Benefit and Spring Assembly, including logistics, programming and fundraising with support from the entire RPA staff;

  • Support in planning and execution of RPA Board Meetings, Retreats and Briefings in partnership with RPA President, Executive Vice President, and Board Secretary;

  • Help in building RPA’s membership program and creating engagement opportunities;

  • Support creating RPA’s Annual Report in partnership with the Development and Communications Teams;

  • Support End-of-Year appeal and Annual Report mailings, along with other development communications as they arise;

  • Provide support to special projects and activities as they arise;

  • Coordinate email communications with members and donors via Constant Contact;

  • Serve as a member of the development department team working to ensure the fiscal and long-term viability of the organization.


  • Minimum 3 years events and fundraising experience;

  • Knowledge of CRM required, and Salesforce preferred;

  • Ability to balance and prioritize different projects with colleagues;

  • Ability to work effectively with outside constituents;

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills;

  • Superior organizational and problem-solving skills;

  • Sense of humor and ability to be flexible;

  • Commitment to RPA’s mission.

This role will occasionally require attending early morning or evening meetings/events. This position is hybrid, with an expectation to be in the New York office a minimum of two to three days per week.
