Development Associate

Regional Plan Association (RPA) is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Development Associate to join our team. The Development Associate will play an integral role in relationship building with RPA’s portfolio of individual, corporate and foundation donors and prospects, including supporting and tracking solicitations, acknowledgments, proposals and reports, donor research, and managing this and related information in RPA’s Salesforce database.

The Development Associate also will support building RPA’s growing Membership program, ranging from helping to identify and implement effective Internet-based engagement tools to developing creative approaches to recruiting new members and showcasing RPA’s work. This position will report to the Vice President of Development and work closely with the Events Manager as well as communications, research, advocacy, and finance staff on a variety of projects.

  • Create, send and track invoices for corporate gifts and sponsorships and pledge reminders for individual donors

  • Manage gift acknowledgment process and tracking

  • Manage RPA’s Salesforce database, including uploading new contacts, donations, event invitations and attendance, and other important communications

  • Create Salesforce reports for events, research, data analysis, and other purposes as needed

  • Conduct research on donor prospects, including individuals and foundations

  • Support research and advocacy staff on grant proposals and reports, including managing calendar of deadlines

  • Support the Events Manager on logistics and preparation for events ranging from a fall gala and spring conference to Board meetings and smaller gatherings

  • Work closely with the Communications team on Member outreach and engagement, including leveraging technological platforms to facilitate outreach and tracking, and thinking creatively to help build a robust Membership base to help strengthen RPA fundraising and advocacy


A bachelor’s degree is preferred, and candidates with a concentration in urban planning, environmental studies, or a related social sciences, combined with a strong computer background and database skills, are strongly encouraged to apply. Excellent organizational, writing and oral communication skills, as well as experience working in small teams, is essential. Candidates should be able to take initiative and balance multiple projects and responsibilities. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google platforms, and Salesforce is essential. Familiarity with Constant Contact and Adobe Creative Suite is a plus.

Salary & Benefits

The salary range for this position is $48,000-$55,000. RPA offers a generous package of benefits including health care, dental, transit and biking benefits, life insurance, and a retirement plan.
